The different kinds of deodorant throughout the years
Like body lotions, deodorant and I go way back as well, thus my particular attitude of choosing the right one is extremely crucial to me. I remember those childhood days, when just a mere deodorant stick costs so much money! Lucky for me there’s alum (or tawas as we call it in the Philippines). Alum is a chemical compound which has multiple uses. In the form of deodorant, we’re using is Potassium Alum. Ground Potash Alum mixed with a bit of water can be used as deodorant, if not you can choose its rock form and apply it on your wet underarms. This is truly one of the great natural deodorants out there.
Growing up, I then switched to sticks and gels. Sticks are okay, but applying it on the skin is a challenge, it just doesn’t glide, I don’t know maybe there are better formulas now. The same goes for the gels, this type of deodorant wasn’t the best choice because they leave stains on your clothes, but then again better formulas do exist nowadays. What I don’t like with these two types of deodorant is the fact that they’re a bit unhygienic — my advice, when using these kinds, do not use them when you already perspired, use them directly right after shower!
During my teenager days, and because a lot of girls around me use this kind when we have PE, I got curious of using sprays, bad choice but this experience lasted for about 3 years … Sprays have cooling effect and they’re great to use to hide body odor when you already perspired .. a lot. However, when I think back, I imagine those moments when almost everyone spray deodorant at the same time in the same enclosed locker room. Yeah pretty toxic because they’re like aerosols, they contain compressed gases. What I hate about sprays as well is that it stings, yes because I used to shave back then, and alcohol over raw skin – not a good combination.
Anyway, this brings me to my product review after such a long introduction!
The Deodorant Balm by Clémence & Vivien
As I was skimming through Nuoobox products for my first purchase, I stumble on this. This was the kind of deodorant that has me longing for quite some time now. I love every balm product out there so there is no surprise that this wouldn’t suit my tastes. This deodorant balm is a mixture of ylang-ylang, cedar and sage and because of that it has that really sweet scent hence the name – le sucré .
It comes in a pot and to apply the product you just dip your fingers, which I refuse to do because it’s not very hygienic, instead I have a wooden spatula just for the application of this product. I love how, it melts down on the touch of the skin for easier application.
Texture-wise, I think I’ve found The Deodorant for me, though I might state a downside for this product which I’m not pretty sure if it’s important or not. I rarely sweat a lot, even when working out, it’s very rare that I really sweat, now there’s one time when I did (went for a light run) and I was already using this product, and it didn’t hide my body odor. I say, I don’t know if this is important, because as I said, I rarely sweat so this “negative” aspect doesn’t bother me. I work out at home so if I do smell, then nobody beside me will faint!
As for my final thoughts on this product, this is definitely a good deodorant that I will recommend. The pot costs €7,90, you can check out Clémence & Vivien site to know more. Keep in mind though that this is something for non-sweaty people like me, it is not an antiperspirant so don’t buy this if you’re looking for such product. Another similar product that really worked out for me is the Aromaco deodorant from Lush. It’s a solid deodorant that’s really worth your bucks. I bought 100g of it and it lasted for almost 2 years!
