This cold weather got me thinking of my last stop when I did my French roadtrip on October. Almost two months has passed since my last trip and I’m already itching to go elsewhere.
Going on a roadtrip is of course very tiring, you stay seated for several hours in a not-so-comfortable position to boot! I spent one week like that (you can read all about my journey here) so the last stop was very much appreciated.
We arrived pretty late at St Remy de Provence, no time to look around since it’s already dark outside. Well, we could have gone outside to eat but, it was a windy night and honestly, it’s out of the question when you’re just dying to take a dip in the jacuzzi.
Hotel le Vallon de Valrugues & Spa, is a 5-star hotel located near the heart of the town. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The check-in took less than 5 minutes and we were ushered by the same person to our room, giving us the necessary information as we go along.
The room was spacious, it has a big comfortable bed, a sofa, bed side drawer and closet to put our stuff, TV set, complimentary coffee, tea and local snacks. I have to note the personal handwritten welcome letter for us, which definitely was a first for both my partner and I.
We were of course amazed by the bathroom, it was large enough to fit in 5 people. There was a big bathtub which delighted me more, I was already satisfied then.
By the time we have settled in, we decided to check out the wellness corner. The hotel houses a sauna, hammam, heated pool and jacuzzi. After a week of hectic schedule, it was the cherry on top. We spent at least 4 hours relaxing and revitalizing.
If you’re in Provence and need a place to relax, this place would definitely do you good. The room rate is as to be expected – at least €300. If you’re feeling skeptical about the price, I understand but this is normal in France, especially since the hotel standing is 5 stars.
However, there are aspects that didn’t appeal to me such as the restaurant and breakfast which we decided not to take as it was not worth the money. There wasn’t that much choice in terms of dishes, don’t even get me started with the price of each dish… Breakfast was €21 if I’m not mistaken, and if you want additional egg with that, you pay €7, that’s insane for an egg!
That aside, the hotel itself was immense and has many amenities : outside pool, game room, multimedia room and bar. The hotel staff is friendly and always willing to help.
