Planning your next trip in the south of France ? Bordeaux can be your next destination, a not-to-be-missed city in France (even though you’d rather be in Paris … but I assure you the southern part is even prettier) especially if you love wine. This was my second to last stop while doing my roadtrip and I highly recommend you stay in this city. We stayed at the City Residence (Les Chartrons) which is a 10-minute walk to downtown Bordeaux. I will be reviewing this hotel of course but let me finish convincing you why Bordeaux should be in your travel bucket list.
Bordeaux is a vibrant and very chic city but at the same time. While walking through the streets to reach downtown I fell in love with the scenery. Rue de Notre Dame was an absolute heaven for antique lovers, you will find boutiques in each side of the alley it was enticing to the eyes, unfortunately we were only staying there for one night so I had no time to visit each one of them.
Are you a wine lover? or occasionally want to impress your entourage that you know how to appreciate wine? Well, Bordeaux is in fact the wine capital in the world, so if you want to build your knowledge on the matter, this is the right place.
Another thing I loved about this city is the vibe it gives out to its visitors (or maybe that’s personal), I can talk to you about the nightlife to be precise, and it’s very flamboyant. The plaza is very big and luminous on one side you have the Bordeaux Grand Hotel and at the opposite you have the l’Entrecôte, which apparently is a-must-try restaurant when you’re in the city, and I can say that’s true because the place was packed when passed by.
What I personally loved as well was the fact that there were a LOT of Asian restaurant (being Asian that’s important) especially Japanese! too bad I don’t live there … Anyway, I think that’s enough convincing I hope it works (insert wink emoji here).
Moving on, I want to quickly add our accommodation when we stopped there for a night I booked a studio apartment for the night at City Residence on Booking.com for 43€ a really cheap price like that hotel we stayed in Lyon you can also read my review on that one if you haven’t yet. Since it’s an aparthotel the reception ends at 8pm, the lobby is pretty simple and basic, getting the key to our room was pretty fast. They provide parking space as well for €8/night in case you travel by car.
The location of the hotel is pretty good, as I said earlier it’s a 10-minute walk to the city center, so I say for the price it’s worth staying in this hotel. Since it’s an aparthotel you can also cook your meals, they provide the necessary things you might need but be sure to clean up after yourself as they charge you for extra cleaning service.
As for the room, I appreciated the cleanliness and orderliness of it, one of my criteria when I stay in hotels. You have a TV set, bathroom and toilet of course, a big closet for your stuff and a big desk.
I forgot to take a picture of the bathroom unfortunately … and I just realized that when writing this post (how clumsy).
Anyway, I’ve got nothing bad to say about the room, it’s simple and it has everything you need for your stay. However, we did encounter a problem. There were roadworks just outside the hotel and in the middle of the night, they cut of our water … we weren’t advised beforehand even though the staff knew about it – it’s a shame but I understand why. Of course we were mad, especially because we went out drinking and we were in dire need to hydrate ourselves thankfully though I had my small water bottle, but that was it.
Despite this small problem I still recommend this place but try to get some information about roadworks before your arrival so you don’t suffer the same fate!
Before closing this post let me share with you some of snaps of Bordeaux …
