I can’t say that I’m fond of face powders but sure it’s a better choice sometimes, over foundation, if you’ve been hanging around you probably know by now my beliefs in terms of makeup but since it’s a new year let me do some refreshing.
🌱 Blog themes reminder :
When I started Genuinedrop, I have already took an interest to healthy living which I know is not so new a term to us. For me healthy living is of course giving your body what it truly needs, meaning clean food, natural and organic. This also applies to your skin – so I started eliminating chemicals in my consumption be it food or cosmetics. Through this process I created my blog and started sharing the knowledge I’ve recently (or have already) acquired to share my progress into adapting this new lifestyle.
Now to continue with my introduction – in terms of makeup, I prefer to use products with no chemicals in them even better natural and organic brands. I love makeup as you may have observed already, and I love the mainstream makeup brands. I’m mostly particular about my skin, so the first things that touch my face skin should be safe products and what I mean with this is no harmful chemicals. I posted some of those harmful ingredients by the way and you can consult them right here. How can I be so sure that there are no harmful chemicals? Well I’m no scientist and even if I thoroughly scan the ingredients list there are terms that I do not understand and of course researching each term on Google would be a pain in the *** . So I found this site, I’m not sure of the reliability of this site but it gets the basic research done. It’s basically an ingredients analyzer (you can find an example of that analysis in this post) if you have doubts you can also search the terms that puzzle you on the EWG site which is an official organization on healthy living, they have listed most of the ingredients in our daily consumption and provide you data on them.
Okay, I think that’s enough introduction …
The Balm Cosmetics
The Balm is an American cosmetics brand claiming to produce products that are talc, paraben and cruelty free. I’ve known this brand for some time now, ever since I took interest on makeup seriously at the least. What is striking with this brand is their packaging, it’s 50’s inspired, very retro and stylish. I was, I have to admit, quite reluctant to purchase their products as I found them pricey however, as I gain experience and knowledge on makeup I caved in. Here’s my first purchase:
It was a good buy, of course, before purchasing the face powder I’ve already made a quick search online concerning the safety of its ingredients (which you will find at the foot of this post). Honestly, I’ve been looking for the perfect face powder, I’ve been using 03 Beige doré from Boho green makeup brand which is a French organic cosmetics brand, which was perfect don’t get me wrong. After seeing Photobalm (powder foundation), having a mirror is an even better choice. The powder’s texture is smooth and lightweight, it’s the perfect powder (for me) is what I’m saying.
I also discovered their matte liquid lipsticks which I fell in love the moment I swatched them in the store. They apply smoothly, long-wearing and most of all, have the greatest mint scent which makes them so refreshing when you wear them on the lips. However, after some hours they tend to be grainy and if you want to refreshen up you’ll have to completely take the lipstick off before reapplying to avoid the grainy texture, which is so uncomfortable. Aside from this small detail, I’m still glad I purchased them. I’m not saying their my favorites but they work and that’s enough for me.
Have you tried this brand’s products? What are your thoughts on them?
